Tap Dancers Cast a Jazzy Spell in ‘42nd Street’

At the Muny, some people who want to avoid traffic leave before the show is quite over. But with “42nd Street” on stage, do yourself a favor: Stick around. That way, you’ll get to see the dazzling finale that director/choreographer Denis Jones dreamed up for the big ensemble.

When the performers tap-tap-tap their way down an enormous staircase, it’s the supreme “Muny Moment” (as artistic director/executive producer Mike Isaacson likes to put it). A deliciously long number, it takes full advantage of the theater’s imposing proportions, and of the performers’ sharp, vivacious moves. It’s simply mesmerizing.
